Call for 2 PhD students (Early Stage Researchers) to develop the PhD at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) in collaboration with the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, involved in the Marie S. Curie European Training Network project H2020- MSCA-ITN-ETN-2016 “Explaining Global India : a multi-sectoral PhD training programme analysing the emergence of India as a global actor” (Global India).

The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) invites applications for Early Stage Researcher (ESR) positions in the Marie S. Curie European Training Network Global India. The successful candidates will be employed by IBEI and will enrol on a PhD training programme as a mandatory requirement. One of the candidates will enrol in the Universitat Pompeu Fabra PhD programme under the supervision of
Prof. Jacint Jordana. The other one will enrol in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona PhD programme under the supervision of the Prof. Esther Barbé.

The Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals is a graduate teaching and research institution created by five universities in Barcelona (the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, the Open University of Catalonia, and the Technical University of Catalonia). It supports research in the fields of international political economy, international relations, international

Explaining Global India : a multi-sectoral PhD training programme analysing the emergence of India as a global actor (Global India)

The GLOBAL INDIA ETN will deliver a world-class multi-sectoral doctoral training programme focused on India’s emergence as a global and regional power, and its relationship with the EU. The European Training Network is a multidisciplinary, multi-sectoral network bringing together six leading European universities, with six leading Indian universities, and six non-university partners. The network will train 15 Early Career Researchers, focusing on both academic excellence and professional, transferable, skills.

All researchers will spend a semester in an Indian University and have a work placement in one of the non-university partners. In the four years of the programme there will be 10 network events in both Europe and India.

Project title : The diffusion of regulatory governance in India
Supervisor : Prof. Jacint Jordana (IBEI-UPF)
Objectives : Analyses the shift in regulatory governance of the economy in India under the influence of international policy diffusion and the impacts of those changes. The changing regulatory framework has implications for economic and trade relations with the EU.

Project title : The making of EU foreign policy towards India
Supervisor : Prof. Esther Barbé (IBEI-UAB)
Objectives : This project provides a temporal analysis of key decisions in EU policy making towards India, identifying the dominant actors and their relative success in
influencing policy outcomes. It discusses how important India is in EU strategic thinking and what shapes perception of India.

Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellows enjoy a full time 3 year contract with benefits of full social security, very competitive monthly living, mobility and family allowance.
The program provides an excellent opportunity for students to participate in network-wide training and develop a wide set of research focused and transferable skills at different locations throughout Europe and India, with leading scientists in the field, including secondments in an Indian University and have a work placement in one of the non-university partners.

We are looking for motivated researchers with a Master’s degree in International Relations/Political Science/Public Policy or equivalent (early stage researcher) with excellent empirical and theoretical skills as well as good team spirit.
ESR recruitment is also subject to the mobility rule. The applicant may be a national of a Member State, of an Associated Country or of any other third country. Also, the applicant must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to his/her recruitment. Short stays (e.g. holidays) are not taken into account.
Applicants who have obtained a doctorate or had more than 4 years full time research experience are ineligible. The ESR will ideally commence PhD enrolment / employment in October 2017.
