Clarksonian Mega-Challenges for Canada and North America
Article publié en ligne sur The Progressive Economics Forum
Extrait :
« North America has been an experimental model of trade and integration for at least the last 25 years. Stephen spent his life understanding North America and how the region shaped the Canadian political economy and society. An excellent, innovative researcher, he kept asking questions, many without clear-cut answers that led to a dozen high impact publications. Always kind and generous, intellectually challenging, he had (...) -

Toward a Free Trade Agreement with China
"A possible free trade agreement (FTA) with China represents a great opportunity for Canada, since it would give the latter preferential access to the world’s third-largest economy after the European Union and the United States. It would also help level the playing field for Canadian businesses vis-à-vis their Australian, New Zealand and Swiss competitors, which operate under FTAs that their countries have signed with China. This special report examines the opportunities and challenges of a (...)

Linking International Norms to Regions : Mercosur and ASEAN facing the challenge of cultural diversity
Abstract
The Convention on diversity of cultural expression (CDCE), adopted by Unesco in 2005, became a main mechanism within the multilayered global governance of cultural industries, establishing new pratices regarding the cultural sector. My article encourage an orignial view on norm diffusion and implementation focusing on two regions : Mercosur (Southern Common Market) and ASEAN (Association of the Southeast Asian Nations). Through the analysis of the CDCE’s transfer from international (...) -

From regionalism to cross-regionalism
« Commenting on the relationship between prolific and pioneering regional trade agreements and a faltering WTO, the author questions whether the latter can regain initiative and control on trade regulation.
The multilateral trading system is geared towards a disciplined opening of markets and liberalisation of trade. Cooperation is regulated in order to ensure that equal treatment is respected by states, both in their relationships to one another and towards foreign operators on their (...) -

European Commission, trade agreements and diversity of cultural expressions
The Convention on diversity of cultural expressions – adopted by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2005 – is a main international instrument within the global governance of cultural and audiovisual industries. For its part, the European Commission played a critical role in the negotiation, leading to the Convention on Diversity of Cultural Expressions’ adoption. In this respect, the article aims to explore why and how the Commission uses the Convention on (...)

A Century of Marxist Debates Concerning Capitalism, Imperialism and Imperialist Competition
Résumé
The mechanicist association of capitalism to western imperialism has paved the way for current "globalisation" and "empire" discourses while minimising the importance of the nation-state. Conversely only a small number of neo-Marxists think otherwise, and our paper, by retourning to classical Marxist theorists of imperialism, tends to valorise thier minority position.

Culture in the post-2015 development agenda : the anatomy of an international mobilisation
This article was published on
Third World Quarterly
Volume 36, Issue 9, 2015
Abstract
Throughout 2012–15 several actors were advocating that culture be explicitly integrated within the post-2015 UN development agenda. My article offers an anatomy of the recent international mobilisation in order to understand the cleavages and the contrasting visions. In doing so, it seeks to analyse the policy process through which the agenda is made, why and how a critical mass of actors is attempting (...)
